Every brake bleed and hose install needs this grease. SRAM's formula is the only one that plays nicely with DOT fluid.

SRAM Hydraulic Disc Brake Assembly Grease — formerly known as DOT Grease — is the purpose-built lubricant for every moving part inside a DOT-fluid disc brake system. Lever pistons, hose barbs, compression olives, O-rings, caliper seals: all of them need lubrication during installation and service, and all of them need a grease that won't swell, soften, or chemically attack DOT-compatible seals. This 29ml tub is what SRAM specifies for every hydraulic brake service across the full SRAM and Avid range.

Not all grease is DOT-compatible. Standard bicycle greases — including most lithium-based and ceramic greases — will cause DOT-compatible seals and O-rings to swell and degrade over time. SRAM's Hydraulic Disc Brake Assembly Grease is specifically formulated to be chemically inert against DOT fluid and DOT-compatible elastomers. Using the wrong grease inside a hydraulic brake will destroy the seals.

What you use it for

Lever piston lubrication

Apply to the piston bodies and piston seals inside the brake lever reservoir during bleed service. Keeps pistons moving freely and prevents O-ring stiction that causes inconsistent lever feel.

Barb and olive installation

Coat the Stealthamajig threaded barb and compression olive before installation. The grease seats the olive correctly, prevents galling on the threads, and ensures a clean hydraulic seal at the hose junction.

Caliper piston service

Apply to caliper pistons when retracting them during pad replacement or full caliper service. Prevents corrosion on the piston face and keeps the dust seal supple so pistons retract evenly under braking.

Hose compression nut threads

A thin coat on the compression nut threads at lever and caliper connection points prevents seizing — particularly important on bikes stored in high-humidity environments or ridden in wet conditions.

O-ring and seal conditioning

Keeps rubber O-rings and elastomer seals throughout the hydraulic circuit supple and correctly seated. Dry or cracked seals are the most common cause of brake fluid weeping and inconsistent bite point.

DOT-safe formulation

Chemically compatible with DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 fluid. Will not cause seal swelling, hardening, or degradation. This is a non-negotiable requirement — regular grease will attack DOT-compatible elastomers and cause seal failure.

DOT Grease vs DOT Fluid — what's the difference?

Product Form Used for Goes inside the system?
SRAM DOT Brake Fluid Liquid Hydraulic fluid — fills the system, transmits pressure Yes — bleeds into hose and caliper
SRAM DOT Assembly Grease Grease (this product) Lubricates pistons, seals, barbs, olives during assembly Applied externally to seals and fittings only

(00.5318.023.000)

  • DOT-compatible formulation — will not swell, degrade, or chemically attack DOT-compatible elastomers, O-rings, or seals
  • Multi-application — for lever pistons, caliper pistons, hose barbs, compression olives, O-rings, and compression nut threads
  • SRAM official specification — the grease SRAM specifies for all hydraulic disc brake service across the full SRAM and Avid range
  • 29ml tub — enough for multiple brake services; store in a cool, dry location between uses
  • Essential for Stealthamajig installation — required when fitting threaded barbs and compression olives to SRAM hose
  • Prevents seal failure — standard greases attack DOT seals; this formulation keeps elastomers supple and correctly seated
  • Full system coverage — compatible with all SRAM (Red AXS through Level) and legacy Avid hydraulic disc brake systems
  • Not for mineral oil systems — DOT-only; do not use on Shimano, Magura, TRP or Hope brakes
